Loose Teeth and Bleeding Gums – Periodontics

Periodontal disease is often difficult to notice as the symptoms are not obvious. Caused by bacterial plaque, its effects are likely to be minor but can lead to tooth loss, so it is important to catch it early.

A mild form or periodontal disease is commonly known as gingivitis. This can lead to inflammation and bleeding during brushing, as well as bad breath and swelling of the gums. However, the early stages are easily treated with a visit to the hygienist as well as an efficient oral health regime, which the Clinic will advise you about.

Some people are more susceptible to the bacteria that cause gum disease and this can lead to periodontitis. This can cause detachment of the gums and ligments anchoring the tooth, resulting in loosing and eventually loss of tooth. If this is the case, the periodontist will use a non-surgical approach to cleaning below the gum line. Occasionally further treatment maybe needed to recontour the gums or repair the bone where possible. Following treatment, advice to follow a thorough hygiene regime will be given to ensure the best chance of avoiding future problems.
