It may seem like an impossible dream but advances in dental technology allow missing teeth to be permanently replaced with dental implants. Dental implants are made of titanium and are placed within the bone. Over time the bone fuses to the implant, and the resulting stable foundation may then be restored with a crown, bridges or denture. If more than one tooth needs replacement a number of implants can be inserted which can be restored individually or with a bridge.
As the closest replacement for natural teeth available, implants provide excellent function as well as appearance. The implant is placed during a brief operation usually requiring only local anaesthetic. Dental implants are an ideal option for non-smoking patients in good general health, who have good oral hygiene.
