Paediatric dentistry is a speciality concerned with all aspects of dental care for younger patients – children and adolescents. From approximately 6 months after birth, with the eruption of the first teeth into teenage years, younger patients’ teeth require special attention. Occasionally, the possibility of trauma or orthodontic considerations, general decay or loss of the tooth surface will mean that specific treatment and management are required.

It is very important to see children from an early age to ensure a preventive approach to their dental care and promote a positive attitude to their teeth for life.

A number of different methods are available for treating younger patients; our paediatric dentist takes great care to speak to the patient and not just to the parent. By building this rapport the patients fears are quickly forgotten and visits to the dentist become more acceptable during their formative years.

Regular reviews and monitoring are the most important aspects of dental care, after a good daily cleaning regime. This will help to avoid the need for major treatment or at least keep it to a minimum.
